Strengthening International Relationships and Exploring the Future of Legal Services
Stephen J. Arena, a partner at Trachtenberg & Arena, LLP (“TA Law”), attended IR Global’s 2026 Annual Conference, Architects of the Future, held October 9–13 in Lisbon, Portugal. The conference brought together more than 400 legal, accounting, and business professionals from over 75 jurisdictions to exchange ideas, discuss emerging challenges, and strengthen relationships across the international professional community.
As an active member of IR Global, TA Law values the opportunity to collaborate with experienced professionals around the world. These relationships are particularly important to the firm’s international litigation and dispute resolution practice, where legal matters frequently involve multiple jurisdictions and require coordination with trusted local counsel.
International Litigation, Artificial Intelligence, and Emerging Legal Challenges
The conference featured discussions on the evolving role of artificial intelligence in legal services, international business developments, cross-border dispute resolution, and the challenges facing businesses operating in an increasingly complex global environment.
A central theme was the growing influence of AI on the legal profession, including its potential to transform legal research, practice management, client expectations, and the delivery of professional services. The program included a keynote presentation by Professor Richard Susskind, a leading authority on the future of legal services, addressing how AI is reshaping the professions.
The conference also enabled lawyers and other professionals to exchange perspectives on international arbitration, commercial disputes, regulatory developments, and the practical considerations of representing clients whose interests extend across national borders.
As part of the conference’s disputes program, Stephen visited the Tribunal da Relação de Lisboa (Lisbon Court of Appeal), gaining insights into the Portuguese judicial system and exchanging perspectives on the administration of justice.
Building Relationships That Benefit Our Clients
An important aspect of the conference was the opportunity to develop new relationships and reconnect with fellow IR Global members from around the world. Through professional sessions, informal discussions, and networking events, Stephen engaged with attorneys and other advisors representing a broad range of disciplines and jurisdictions.
For TA Law, these international relationships serve a practical purpose. Clients involved in cross-border litigation, international business disputes, and other multijurisdictional matters benefit from the firm’s ability to identify and collaborate with experienced professionals in relevant jurisdictions.
TA Law’s continued participation in IR Global reflects its commitment to maintaining a strong international network, staying informed about developments affecting clients worldwide, and delivering sophisticated, practical legal representation in an increasingly interconnected global business environment.
